Material Moisture Content
Before pellet
fuel can be produced, the raw material used must have a suitable and
consistent moisture content. On average to produce quality pellets,
with a good mechanical durability, requires a raw material moisture
content of around 15%. To put this into perspective virgin wood
residues usually contain around 60-70% moisture. Therefore the
biomass raw material may require drying, before pellet compression
in the pellet mill can take place.
Particle Size For
Drying
Before the
biomass can be dried down to the necessary 15% for pellet
production, it must also be reduced to a small particle size if
required. A suitable particle size of 5mm or below is required to
achieve an efficient and accelerated drying process ready for pellet
production. Therefore before entering the biomass into the dryer it
should be processed through a crusher or hammer mill. This can be
achieved through using either the SJ or X series of equipment. |

GJ Rotary Hot Air Biomass Drying Solutions
For drying
small volumes of biomass in a more manually operated process, the
GJ Hot Air Current Series is suitable for most applications.
However for drying larger volumes of biomass in a more automated
pellet process plant, the GJ Rotary Hot Air Dryer is a more
suitable piece of equipment. The material retention time in a hot
air rotary dryer is far greater than in a air current dryer,
therefore the particles are exposed to the hot air for several
minutes.
The raw
material enters the rotary dryer through a hopper, with a variable
speed auger. The fan then pulls the material into the dryer chamber.
Paddles within the dryer move the material along from one end to
another. Finally the material reaches the opposite end of the rotary
dryer and is carried through a series of pipe work to the cyclone
separator and rotary star feed.
