I have my main article on the best value pellets for smoking/grilling. This article is to specifically cover the best-value apple pellets currently on the market. However, some pellets are made from 100% Applewood, and others are an Apple pellet blend with a high percentage of Oak pellets. Therefore, I’ve separated the two types of ‘Apple pellets’ to calculate the best price per lb. I’ve ordered the two lists below with the cheapest brand of pellets per lb first.

Best Value Apple Blended Pellets – Ordered Cheapest Per Lb
So the first pellets I’ve included below are Apple blended pellets. Hence, there will be a percentage of Applewood pellets within the bag, typically 30%, and the rest will be typically Oak pellets.
Any brand which does not specifically state their pellets are made from 100% Applewood, I’ve included them in the list below as Apple blended pellets.
As pellet bag sizes change (some are 20 lbs, some are 40 lbs), I focus on the price per lb, not per bag. This is an important distinction to make when looking to buy the best-value pellets.
The order of the different brands of Apple blended pellets below is the cheapest per lb first. However, prices can obviously change, but I’ll do my best to update this article over time.
Bear Mountain Apple Pellets – 43 Cents to $1.10 Per Lb
I believe these to be Applewood pellets blended with Oak pellets. However, I’m waiting on confirmation back from Bear Mountain if this is the case.
In terms of pricing and availability, Amazon sells these pellets in 40 lb bags for $35, as does Walmart. I also found Lowes selling these 40 lb bags at just $17.50, which I think is probably an error.
They are also available in 20 lb bags too, with Home Depot selling them for $22 and Academy Sports selling them for just $9.
So where does this leave us with the price per lb? Well, if you are able to get a 40 lb bag at Lowes for just $17.50, that’s a very low price of 43 Cents per lb!
Otherwise, from Amazon and Walmart, the price per lb works out at 87 Cents per lb, with the 20 lb bags at Academy Sports and Home Depot selling for 45 Cents and $1.10 per lb, respectively.
- Typical Price Per lb: 43 Cents to $1.10
- Bag Size: 20 lbs & 40 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Lowes.com, HomeDepot.com & Academy.com
Pit Boss Apple Blend Pellets – 50 Cents to 97 Cents Per Lb
Pit Boss are pretty much the leading brand currently when it comes to budget/mid-range pellet grills/smokers, at least in terms of brand awareness anyway.
The Pit Boss Pros Series range, along with the Platinum Series and the new Onyx Edition and Competition Series, are widely available and well known.
Pit Boss naturally offer their own range of branded pellets. It’s clear their Apple pellets are a blend of Applewood and another hardwood. However, the percentages are not stated.
You can pick up these Pit Boss Apple blend pellets in either 20 lb or 40 lb bags, the latter providing the better value. Directly from Pit Boss, the 40 lb bags are priced at just $20.
You can also pick up the 40 lb bags from Amazon ($21), and Walmart sells a 40 lb bag double pack for $78, which is a terrible deal. For some reason, Lowes only appear to sell the 20 lb bags at $12.
Therefore, the price per lb for these Pit Boss Apple Blend pellets works out between 50 Cents and 97 Cents per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: 50 Cents to 97 Cents
- Bag Size: 20 lbs & 40 lbs
- Availability: PitBoss-Grills.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com & Lowes.com
Camp Chef Apple Pellets – 65 Cents to $1.05 Per Lb
Camp Chef produce established models, such as SmokePro and Woodwind, and they are also producing some of the most innovative products, such as the Apex and Woodwind Pro.
In terms of their pellets, these Camp Chef Apple pellets are blended pellets. However, Camp Chef doesn’t state the mixture/percentages of their ‘proprietary’ pellets, which is a bit disappointing.
These Camp Chef Apple pellets in 20 lb bags are widely available. Directly from Camp Chef, they are typically $17 per bag. The same is true for Amazon and Home Depot.
I found that Walmart was charging the highest price at $21 per bag, and Lowes was the cheapest at the point I was checking at just $13 per bag.
Therefore, the price per lb of these Camp Chef Apple pellets seems to range from 65 Cents per lb up to $1.05.
- Typical Price Per lb: 65 Cents to $1.05
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: CampChef.com, Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com, Walmart.com & Lowes.com
GMG Apple Blend Pellets – 67 Cents to $1.07 Per Lb
If you are not familiar with GMG pellet grills, they make one of the best portable pellet grills currently on the market in the form of the GMG Trek (previously called the Davvy Crocket).
Their Apple pellets are blended pellets, but they are not just Applewood pellets blended with Red Oak pellets. There are also some Hickory pellets in there too.
Availability is pretty good for these GMG Apple blend pellets, you can find them at Amazon ($30) and Walmart ($30), but I found the best price at BBQGuys ($19).
The slightly odd part is these pellets are not in 20 lb bags or 40 lb bags. The bag size is 28 lbs!? Anyway, that works out with a price per lb range of 67 Cent to $1.07.
- Typical Price Per lb: 67 Cents to $1.07
- Bag Size: 28 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com, Walmart.com & BBQGuys.com
Louisiana Grills Apple Blend Pellets – 75 Cents to $1 Per Lb
The full name of these pellets from Louisiana Grills is the New England Apple blend. The are a mixture of Applewood pellets (40%) and Maple pellets (60%).
The pellets come in large 40 lb bags, and they are pretty widely available. You can get them directly from Louisiana Grills ($30), Lowes ($33) or BBQGuys ($40).

- Bag Size: 40 lbs
- Availability: Louisiana-Grills.com, Lowes.com & BBQGuys.com
Fire & Flavor Apple Pellets – 90 Cents Per Lb
This is brand of pellets I came across while browsing the Home Depot website. I went to the brand’s own website but was unable to find out any information on their pellets, where they are made etc.
It would appear that these pellets are an Applewood blended with some other hardwood, likely Oak. The product description simply states ‘100% natural hardwoods’. Hence, it doesn’t specifically state 100% Applewood.
I’ve only currently come across these Fire & Flavour Apple pellets are Home Depot at $18 for a 20 lb bag. Therefore, the price per lb works out at 90 Cents.
- Typical Price Per lb: 90 Cents
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: HomeDepot.com
Oklahoma Joe’s Apple Blend Pellets – 95 Cents Per Lb
Oklahoma Joe’s has had some success breaking into the pellet grill market with their Rider Gen 1 and Rider Gen 2 pellet grills smokers, and they also sell their own branded pellets.
It’s clear that their Apple blend pellets are a mixture of Applewood and Oak. However, the percentages are not stated, but its likely around 60 to 80% Oak and 20 to 40% Applewood.
I can only currently find these Apple blend pellets at Amazon with a 20 lb bag costing $19. Hence, the price per lb works out at 95 Cents.
- Typical Price Per lb: 95 Cents
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com
Weber SmokeFire Apple Pellets – 95 Cents Per Lb
The Weber SmokeFire Pellet Grills had a bumpy start, but I’m sure future versions will iron out their problems. With the launch of the Weber pellet grills came their SmokeFire pellets.
The Weber Apple pellets are blended pellets, which Weber states are made up of 40% Applewood and 60% Maple.
As you would expect, these Weber Apple pellets in 20 lb bags are pretty widely available. You can pick them up from Amazon ($20), Walmart ($38), Lowes ($19) and BBQGuys ($19).
Besides the terrible price at Walmart, you will find these pellets pretty much at the same price point of $19. Therefore, the price per lb works out at slightly less than a dollar at 95 Cents.
- Typical Price Per lb: 95 Cents
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Lowes.com & BBQGuys.com
Broil King Apple Blend Pellets – 95 Cents to $1.45 Per Lb
If you are not aware of Broil King, they produce a range of premium heavy-duty steel pellet grills. The produce one of the few pellet grills you can currently get with a rotisserie.
As part of their pellet range, they do offer Apple pellets which they specifically state are an Applewood and Oak blend, though they don’t state the ratio of Applewood to Oak.
In terms of availability/pricing, I found 20 lb bags at Amazon for $29. However, I also found them over at Home Depot for the much better price of $19 per bag.
Therefore, when it comes to the price per lb, they are $1.45 per lb at Amazon and 95 Cents per lb at Home Depot.
- Typical Price Per lb: 95 Cents to $1.45
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com & HomeDepot.com
BBQGuys Apple Blend Pellets – $1 Per Lb
BBQGuys are currently one the largest online retailers in the US, specifically focused on grills and smokers. As well as selling other brands of pellets, they now sell their own branded pellets.
Not only do they clear up any confusion with their Apple pellets, specifically stating they are a ‘blend’, but they also tell us the Oak percentage, which is 60%.
In terms of availability, I can only find these pellets sold through the BBQGuys website. In terms of pricing, they seem to be pretty consistent at $20 a 20 lb bag, hence $1 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: BBQGuys.com
Traeger Apple Pellets – $1 Per Lb
You may want to check out my Traeger pellets review, where I discuss a blind taste test, a Traeger patent, and a lawsuit that was submitted against Traeger about how their pellets are made.
As I discuss in my linked article on how Traeger wood pellets are made, Traeger does state in their promotional video that their fruitwood is mixed with Alder or Oak.
These Traeger Apple pellets, like all Traeger pellets, are widely available. They can be picked up from Traeger directly, Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot, and BBQGuys.
What is interesting is unlike all other pellet brands within this article, the price is consistent across all retailers. All of them sell a 20 lb bag of Traeger Apple pellets for slightly under $20.
Hence, the price per lb for Traeger Apple pellets is consistently $1 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Traeger.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, HomeDepot.com & BBQGuys.com
Z Grills Apple Pellets – $1 to $1.45 Per Lb
When it comes to budget pellet grills/smokers, you will likely have come across the Z Grills brand. Well, naturally, they also sell their own branded pellets.
With their Apple pellets is not clear if they are made from 100% Applewood or if they are a pellet blend. I’m going to categorize them as blended pellets until I find out otherwise.
In terms of availability, these pellets can be picked up directly from Z Grills ($29). However, they are also available at Amazon ($20) and Home Depot ($20) for a better price for these 20 lb bags.
Therefore, the price per lb works out between $1 and $1.45.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1 to $1.45
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: ZGrills.com, Amazon.com & HomeDepot.com
CookinPellets Applemash Pellets – $1.03 to $1.18 Per Lb
So here we have some pretty unique pellets. They are not actually made from Applewood. They are made partly from actual apples in the form of apple mash mixed with Hard Maple.
Hence, as they are not made from 100% Applewood, I’ve had to put them in the blended section. Though you may actually get more of a notable apple flavour from these pellets.
However, as CookinPellets note, you should only smoke foods with these pellets up to 350 degrees F. They are not well suited to providing a high heat output for grilling/searing.
These Apple mash/Maple pellets are available in 40 lb bags, and availability is pretty good as they are stocked at Amazon ($41), Home Depot ($43) and Walmart ($47).
The price per lb for these Apple mash/Maple pellets from CookinPellets works out between $1.03 and $1.18 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.03 to $1.18
- Bag Size: 40 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com & Walmart.com
Memphis Grills Apple Pellets – $1.05 Per Lb
If you’re not aware of Memphis Grills, they are a manufacturer of high-end stainless steel pellet grills. Naturally, they also sell their own branded pellets.
However, its not clear if these are 100% Applewood pellets or blended pellets. I’m waiting on feedback from Memphis Grills about it.
The product description just states ‘100% natural hardwood‘. However, that statement obviously doesn’t answer the question about whether these are 100 Applewood or not.
In terms of availability, I can only currently find these pellets for sale at BBQGuys at $21 for a 20 lb bag. Therefore, the price per lb works out at $1.05.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.05
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: BBQGuys.com
REC TEQ Apple Pellets – $1.11 Per Lb
Besides Traeger, REC TEQ (formally REC TEC) are one of the oldest pellet grill/smoker brands.
While they have been offering their Ultimate Blend pellets for many years, they have only recently started to offer their Apple pellets.
Its not clear at this point if these are 100% Applewood pellets. I’m waiting on feedback from REC TEQ if this is the case. For the moment, I’ll classify them as blended pellets.
The bag size of these pellets is a little odd at 18 lbs, especially as REC TEC have previously sold their pellets in 40 lb bags. They can be picked up from Amazon for $20 per bag.
Therefore, on the price per lb basis, these REC TEQ Apple pellets work out at $1.11.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.11
- Bag Size: 18 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com
Lumber Jack Apple Blend Pellets – $1.15 to $1.60
Lumber Jack pellets have been around for many years now. However, the availability of their pellets seems to be getting less and less for some reason.
The Lumber Jack Apple pellets are a blend of 60% Red Oak pellets to 40% Applewood pellets.
In terms of availability, I’ve found these Lumber Jack Apple blend pellets in 20 lb bags at Amazon ($32) and Walmart ($31), but Walmart also sell a 40 lb bag for $46.
Therefore, the price per lb for these Apple blend pellets is high at between $1.15 to $1.60 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.15 to $1.60
- Bag Size: 20 lbs and 40 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com & Walmart.com
BBQr’s Delight Apple Flavor Pellets – $1.25 Per Lb
Here we have a classic example where product listings can either be wrong or misleading. For instance, these pellets are sold at both Amazon and Walmart, and its stated ‘100% Apple Wood‘.
But that’s just not the case. These are blended Apple pellets, with around 75 % of pellets being made from Oak and around 25% of the pellets being made from Applewood.
In terms of pricing, at Amazon and Walmart, a 20 lb bag typically retails for $25. The same is true at Big Poppa Smokers, where two 20 lb bags retail for $50.
Therefore, across all retailers, these BBQr’s Delight Apple flavour pellets sell for $1.25 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.25
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com, Walmart.com & BigPoppaSmokers.com
Best Value 100% Applewood Pellets – Ordered Cheapest Per Lb
Now, as the brands below are offering 100% Applewood pellets that are not blended with Oak pellets, you should expect a higher price per lb.
However, if you are looking for the most pronounced Applewood flavour possible when you are smoking a brisket or smoking burgers etc, then you may want to consider the pellets below.
B&B Apple Pellets – 50 Cents Per Lb
You have probably seen B&B charcoal at your local store. They have been producing charcoal since 1961, after all. Well, B&B is now entering the pellet game, and they are offering good value.
While the availability of their pellets is currently very limited, I do expect that that to change over the coming years. Currently though, I can only find their Apple pellets at Academy Sports.
In terms of pricing for ‘100% natural apple wood‘ as stated by B&B, their pellets at Academy Sports are priced very reasonably, with a 20 lb coming in at just under $10.
Therefore, that means these 100% Applewood pellets cost just 50 Cents per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: 50 Cents
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Academy.com
Grilla Grills 100% Apple Pellets – $1 Per Lb
Grilla Grills produce a selection of mid-range pellet grills/smokers. They also produce a modular stainless steel outdoor kitchen which is very cool.
Anyway, they also offer their own branded pellets, and their Apple pellets are made from 100% Applewood.
In terms of availability, just like their pellets grills, you can only currently get them directly from the Grilla Grills website, with a price of $20 for a 20 lb bag. Therefore they are $1 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: GrillaGrills.com
ASMOKE 100% Apple Pellets – $1.5 to $1.85 Per Lb
ASMOKE are a relatively new brand which is currently mainly known for its tabletop pellet grills. However, they do also produce a couple of full-sized pellet grills/smokers.
The only pellets that ASMOKE currently sell are those 100% Applewood pellets, with the raw material sourced from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) orchard trees.
In terms of pricing, these Applewood pellets can be directly purchased from ASMOKE for $37 for a 20 lb bag. They are also available at Amazon and Walmart for slightly less at $36.
Lowes also stock these pellets, but their price is a little higher at $40 for a 20 lb bag. They are also available on the BBQGuys website, where I’ve seen them for as low as $30.
Therefore, in terms of price per lb, these ASMOKE Applewood pellets range from $1.5 to $1.85 per lb.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.5 to $1.85
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: ASMOKE.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Lowes.com & BBQGuys.com
Giantex 100% Applewood Pellets – $1.75 Per Lb
I came across this brand of pellets on Amazon. Once I looked into the other items they sell, they appear to be a reseller of a wide range of furniture/appliances.
They actually sell a tabletop pellet smoker pretty much identical to that which ASMOKE sell. Therefore, I suspect these Giantex Applewood pellets are rebranded ASMOKE Applewood pellets.
In terms of price and availability, I’ve only found them on Amazon for $35. Which for a 20 lb bag works out at $1.75 per lb. Hence a similar price to the ASMOKE pellets.
- Typical Price Per lb: $1.75
- Bag Size: 20 lbs
- Availability: Amazon.com
