Best Value Cherry Pellets Per Lb

Hi, I’m Chris. I started PelHeat.com back in 2007.

I have my main article on the best value pellets for smoking/grilling. This article is to specifically cover the best-value Cherry pellets currently on the market. However, some pellets are made from 100% Cherrywood, and others are a Cherry pellet blend with a high percentage of Oak pellets. Therefore, I’ve produced two lists below showing the best value brands that offer either blended or 100% Cherry wood pellets. Enjoy 🙂

Best Value Cherry Pellets

Best Value Cherry Blended Pellets – Ordered Cheapest Per Lb

So the first pellets I’ve included below are Cherry blended pellets. Hence, there will be a percentage of Cherry wood pellets within the bag, typically 30%, and the rest will be typically Oak pellets.

Any brand which does not specifically state their pellets are made from 100% Cherry wood, I’ve included them in the list below as Cherry blended pellets.

As pellet bag sizes change (some are 20 lbs, some are 40 lbs), I focus on the price per lb, not per bag. This is an important distinction to make when looking to buy the best-value pellets.

The order of the different brands of Cherry blended pellets below is the cheapest per lb first. However, prices can obviously change, but I’ll do my best to update this article over time.

Pit Boss Cherry Pellets – 50 Cents to 63 Cents Per Lb

Pit Boss is one of the best-known brands for budget/mid-range pellet grills, with the largest product range on the market. As such, they also have the widest pellet flavor ranges as well.

The Pit Boss Cherry pellets are a blend between Cherry wood and Oak. However, the percentages are not stated on the packaging.

Pit Boss Cherry Pellets

The availability of these Cherry pellets is pretty good, with the best value coming from the 40 lb bags available directly from Pit Boss ($20), but also Amazon ($25).

Lowes ($12) sells the 20 lb bags only, it seems. The price per lb for these pellets works out between 50 Cents and 63 Cents per lb.

Camp Chef Cherry Pellets – 65 Cents to $1.10 Per Lb

Camp Chef produce established models, such as SmokePro and Woodwind, and they are also producing some of the most innovative products, such as the Apex and Woodwind Pro.

In terms of their pellets, these Camp Chef Cherry pellets are blended pellets. However, Camp Chef doesn’t state the mixture/percentages of their ‘proprietary’ pellets, which is a bit disappointing.

Camp Chef Cherry Pellets

The good thing about Camp Chef pellets is they are widely available. You can pick up 20 lbs of Cherry pellets directly from Camp Chef ($17) or from many other outlets.

They are also available from Home Depot ($17), Walmart ($22), Lowes ($13) and BBQGuys ($17).

The price per lb for these Camp Chef Cherry pellets currently ranges from 65 Cents to $1.10.

Louisiana Grills Cherry Pellets – 72 Cents to $1 Per Lb

Louisiana Grills is the sibling brand to Pit Boss, both are owned by Dansons LLC. Therefore, its likely Lousiana Grills and Pit Boss pellets are the same blend, but I can’t confirm that.

Louisiana Grills Cherry Pellets

These Louisiana Grills Cherry pellets in 40 lb bags are available directly from Louisiana Grills ($30), but they are also available at Amazon ($29) and BBQGuys ($40).

Therefore the price per lb for these Cherry blend pellets ranges from 72 Cents to $1 per lb.

Cuisinart Cherry Rum Pellets – 85 Cents Per Lb

So here we have something a little different from the other blended Cherry pellets. These are indeed Oak pellets blended with Cherry wood pellets. The difference is where the Oak comes from.

With these Cuisinart Cherry Rum pellets, the source of the Oak is from reclaimed rum barrels. Hence, I will also be covering these pellets in my best value liquor pellets article.

Cuisinart Cherry Rum Pellets

The only outlet I can currently find these Cherry Rub pellets is Walmart ($17) in 20 lb bags. Hence, the price per lb for these pellets works out to 85 Cents per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: 85 Cents
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: Walmart.com

Fire & Flavor Cherry Pellets – 90 Cents Per Lb

To be honest, I know very little about the Fire & Flavor brand, and even after a little bit of research, I still have no clue where these pellets are made or their composition.

It would appear that they are a Cherry blend by the product description simply stating ‘100% natural hardwoods‘. Hence, it doesn’t state 100% Cherry wood.

Fire & Flavor Cherry Pellets

In terms of availability and pricing, I’ve only come across these pellets at Home Depot ($18) in 20 lb bags. Therefore the price per lb works out as 90 Cents per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: 90 Cents
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: HomeDepot.com

Bear Mountain Cherry Pellets – 92 Cents to $1 Per Lb

Based in Colorado, Bear Mountain BBQ has been producing a range of hardwood pellets for grills/smokers since 1990.

These Cherry pellets are blended pellets. Hence, while they are indeed made from 100% Hardwood pellets, there will be a high percentage of Oak pellets in the bag.

Bear Mountain Cherry Pellets

The availability of these Bear Mountain Cherry pellets is good. They can be picked up in 40 lb bags from Amazon ($37), Walmart ($37) and Home Depot ($38).

You also have outlets such as Lowes ($10) and Academy Sports ($10) selling them in 20 lb bags.

Therefore, the price per lb for these Cherry pellets ranges from 92 Cents to $1.

Weber SmokeFire Cherry Pellets – 95 Cents Per Lb

There is no bigger name in BBQ than Weber. Therefore, when they released their own SmokeFire pellet grills, they started to offer their own line of SmokeFire pellets.

Their Cherry pellets are stated as a blend, and Weber actually provides the mix percentage. These are 40% Cherry wood and 60% Maple.

Weber SmokeFire Cherry Pellets

These Weber pellets are not as widely available as you may think. However, they can be picked up from Home Depot ($19), Lowes ($19) and BBQGuys ($19) in 20 lb bags.

Therefore the price per lb is very consistent at 95 Cents per lb.

BBQGuys Cherry Pellets – $1 Per Lb

BBQGuys sell lots of different makes and models of pellet grills/smokers, along with many different brands of pellets and pellet flavors.

Well, they have now decided to start selling their own branded pellets as well. Their Cherry pellets are a blend of 40% Cherry wood and 60% Oak pellets.

BBQGuys Cherry Pellets

These BBQGuys Cherry pellets currently appear to only be available through BBQGuys own website for $20 for a 20 lb bag. Hence a price per lb of $1.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: BBQGuys.com

Traeger Cherry Pellets – $1 Per Lb

If you’re aware of pellet grills/smokers, you’re aware of Traeger. Obviously, the most well-known brand of pellet grills/smokers and as I’m sure you’re aware, they also offer their own branded pellets.

While a small amount of Soybean oil is used in their process, Traeger pellets are not flavoured with oil, as a 2020 dismissed lawsuit alleged (see here).

However, as I discuss in my linked article on how Traeger wood pellets are made, Traeger does state in their promotional video that their pellets are blended. Hence, these are not 100% Cherry wood.

Traeger Cherry Pellets

The best thing about Traeger pellets is they are widely available. You can get these Cherry flavored pellets from Traeger ($20), Amazon ($20), Walmart ($29), Home Depot ($20) and BBQGuys ($20) in 20 lb bags.

Besides the inflated price at Walmart, you should be able to pick up a bag at $20 from pretty much anywhere. Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets should be $1.

Kingsford Cherry Pellets – $1 to $1.15 Per Lb

Now, I’m not sure whether these pellets from Kingsford are Cherry blended pellets or not. The product description stating ‘Hardwood Blend Pellets‘ would be enough evidence for most people.

What is odd though, is in my Hickory pellets article, the Kingsford pellets are 100 % Hickory. But that description is not stated on these pellets. Therefore, I’m putting them in the blended category.

Kingsford Cherry Pellets

In terms of availability and price, I’ve found these Kingsford Cherry pellets at Home Depot ($20) and Lowes ($23) in 20 lb bags.

Therefore, the price per lb for these Cherry pellets works out between $1 and $1.15.

Memphis Grills Cherry Pellets – $1.05 Per Lb

Memphis Grills produce high-end stainless steel pellet grills/smokers. They also offer their own branded pellets in various flavors, including Cherry.

However, it would appear these are hardwood blended pellets with a percentage of Cherry wood in the mix. Though percentages of the specific hardwoods used are not stated.

Memphis Grills Cherry Pellets

These pellets have been for sale on at Amazon. However, they no longer appear to be in stock. They can still be purchased from BBQGuys ($21) in 20 lb bags with a price per lb of $1.05.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1.05
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: BBQGuys.com

Z Grills Cherry Pellets – $1.05 to $1.45 Per Lb

You have likely come across a Z Grills pellet grill/smoker browsing the isles of Walmart etc. They are one of the most widely available budget/low-cost brands on the market.

They also offer their own range of branded pellets. Their Cherry pellets are blended pellets. However, no details are provided on the wood species percentages.

Z Grills Cherry Pellets

You can pick these pellets up in 20 lb bags directly from Z Grills ($29) or from Amazon ($21) and Home Depot ($21). Therefore, the price per lb ranges from $1.05 to $1.45.

RECTEQ Cherry Pellets – $1.11 Per Lb

If you are not aware of RECTEQ (formally RECTEC) they produce some very good value premium pellet grills/smokers, which feature a lot of stainless steel construction.

RECTEQ have been selling their Ultimate Blend pellets for many years. However, they now also offer Cherry pellets. From the product description, it would appear these are blended pellets.

RECTEQ Cherry Pellets

I’ve only currently found these pellets for sale on Amazon for $20. The bag size is a little odd, they come in 18 lb bags. Therefore the price per lb works out at $1.11 per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1.11
  • Bag Size: 18 lbs
  • Availability: Amazon.com

BBQr’s Delight Cherry Pellets – $1.25 Per Lb

These Cherry flavor pellets from BBQr’s Delight are blended pellets. The product packaging states, ‘Premium Oak mixed with flavorwood‘. However, the percentages are not provided.

BBQr’s Delight Cherry Pellets

I can find these Cherry flavor pellets for sale at Walmart ($25) and Big Poppa Smokers ($25) in 20 lb bags. Oddly, unlike the other BBQr’s Delight flavored pellets, Amazon doesn’t stock them!?

The price per lb for these Cherry flavor pellets works out at $1.25 per lb.

Myron Mixon Cherry Pellets – $1.35 Per Lb

You may be aware of Myron Mixon, he has won various BBQ competitions over the years and appeared on various TV shows cooking BBQ. Myron actually has his own BARQ pellet grills/smokers.

There are also the Myron Mixon branded pellets, in this case, the Sweet Smoke Cherry pellets. It doesn’t appear that these pellets are 100% Cherry wood though, it appears they are blended pellets.

Myron Mixon Cherry Pellets

In terms of availability, I’ve found these Sweet Smoke Cherry pellets in 20 lb bags at Home Depot ($27) and at Amazon ($27).

Therefore the price per lb for these Cherry blended pellets works out at $1.35 per lb.

Best Value 100% Cherry Pellets – Ordered Cheapest Per Lb

Now, as the brands below are offering 100% Cherry wood pellets that are not blended with Oak pellets, you should typically expect a higher price per lb.

However, if you are looking for the most pronounced Cherry wood flavour possible when you are smoking a brisket or smoking burgers etc, then you may want to consider the pellets below.

B&B 100 % Cherry Pellets – 50 Cents Per Lb

B&B has been selling charcoal since the early 1960s. They have now started to offer their own branded pellets, and they are offering some really great value.

B&B 100 % Cherry Pellets

The biggest problem with these B&B pellets currently is the lack of availability. I can currently only find them in 20 lb bags for sale at Academy Sports ($10), but I expect that to change relatively soon.

The price per lb for these 100% Cherry pellets works out at just 50 Cents per lb. Hence, these 100% Cherry pellets are better value than many of the Cherry blended pellets above.

  • Typical Price Per lb: 50 Cents
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: Academy.com

CookinPellets 100% Black Cherry – 97 Cents to $1.15 Per Lb

CookinPellets have been around for many years now, and they were one of the first brands to advertise that their pellets didn’t contain ‘fillers’. Hence, they weren’t blended pellets.

For instance, here we have their 100% Black Cherry wood pellets which come in 40 lb bags.

CookinPellets 100% Black Cherry

I’ve found these 100% Cherry wood pellets available at Amazon ($39), Home Depot ($43), and Walmart ($46).

Therefore, the price per lb for these Cherry pellets works out between 97 Cents and $1.15 per lb.

Grilla Grills 100% Cherry Pellets – $1 Per Lb

If you are not aware of Grilla Grills, they produce a range of mid-budget pellet grills/smokers with some nice features, such as twin-wall insulation and stainless steel.

Anyway, they also offer their own branded pellets, and their pellets are 100% single species, as is the case here with their Cherry pellets.

Grilla Grills 100% Cherry Pellets

You can only currently get these pellets directly from Grilla Grills ($20) in 20 lb bags. Therefore, the price per lb works out as $1 per lb.

Lumber Jack 100% Cherry Pellets – $1.55 to $1.75 Per Lb

The Lumber Jack brand of BBQ pellets used to be pretty easy to get hold of. However, I’m now having to search for much longer to find these pellets in stock.

Lumber Jack 100% Cherry Pellets

I have found these 100% Cherry pellets available in 20 lb bags at Amazon ($35) and Walmart ($31), which works out with a price per lb between $1.55 to $1.75.
