Best Value Custom Blended Pellets Per Lb

Hi, I’m Chris. I started PelHeat.com back in 2007.

I have my main article on the best value pellets for smoking/grilling. This article is to specifically cover the best-value blended pellets currently on the market. Various brands offer custom blends often branded as Signature, Pit Master, Competition, Fruitwood etc. Hence, these are not specific wood flavored blends which I have covered in my previous articles. If you are looking for those, check out my Apple, Cherry, Hickory, Mesquite, Maple, Oak and Pecan articles.

Best Value Custom Blended Pellets

Disclaimer: Hey! By the way… any links on this page that lead to products on Amazon or other sites are affiliate links, and I earn a commission if you make a purchase.

Quick Note: I’ve not included any liquor blends that any of the brands below sell, as I have a separate article for those pellet blends.

Expert Grill Pellet Blends – 33 Cents to 35 Cents Per Lb

There are now three different pellet blends from Expert Grill:

  • Bold Blend: Hickory & Pecan
  • Sweet Blend: Apple & Cherry
  • Five Star Blend: Oak & Hickory
Expert Grill Pellet Blends

You will only find Expert Grill pellets at Walmart. The Bold Blend ($10) and the Sweet Blend ($10) come in 30 lb bags. However, the Five Star Blend ($7) comes in 20 lb bags.

Therefore, in terms of price per lb, these are some of the cheapest BBQ pellets on the market at between 33 Cents to 35 Cents per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: 33 Cents to 35 Cents
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs & 30 lbs
  • Availability: Walmart.com

Pit Boss Pellet Blends – 38 Cents to 88 Cents Per Lb

Pit Boss is a big fan of pellet blends, and their selection keeps growing:

  • Competition Blend: Hickory, Maple, Apple
  • Classic Blend: Pecan, Hickory, Mesquite
  • Trophy Blend: White Oak, Red Oak, Hickory
  • Pitmaster Blend: Cherry, Oak, Hickory, Maple

  • Harvest Blend: Apple, Pecan
  • Fall Blend: Apple, Hickory
  • Fruit Blend: Cherry, Apple, Maple
  • Peach Blend: Oak, Peach
Pit Boss Pellet Blends

Right, so you can pick up many of the Pit Boss blends above directly from the Pit Boss website, where you will usually get the best price, but they are also available at Amazon and Lowes.

However, currently, you won’t find several of the blends (Peach Blend, for instance) on the Pit Boss website or other outlets apart from Walmart.

You will find many of these blends in 20 lb, 30 lb and 40 lb bags, with the best price per lb being found with the larger bags. I’ve found the price per lb to range from 38 Cents to 88 Cents.

B&B Pellet Blends – 42 Cents to 85 Cents Per Lb

Currently, B&B just have one pellet blend, but I expect that to change soon:

  • Championship Blend: Oak, Cherry, Pecan

While B&B has been selling charcoal since the 1960s, they are new to the pellet game, and their other pellet flavors are currently not that widely available.

B&B Pellet Blends

However, its easier to find these Championship Blend pellets in 40 lb bags at Walmart ($34), Ace Hardware ($34) and Academy Sports ($17).

Therefore, the price per lb for these B&B Championship Blend pellets ranges from 42 Cents to 85 Cents.

Bear Mountain BBQ Pellet Blends – 65 Cents to $1.10 Per Lb

There are a couple of different Bear Mountain BBQ custom pellet blends, such as:

  • Gourmet: Oak, Hickory, Maple, Cherry
  • Bold: Oak, Mesquite, Hickory
  • Sweet BBQ: Oak, Maple, Cherry
  • Savory BBQ: Oak, Hickory, Maple
Bear Mountain BBQ Pellet Blends

You can pick up the Gourmet blend of pellets at their Amazon store. However, only the 20 lb bags seem to be sold there. Walmart seems to have a wider selection of these blends available.

Lowes appears to sell the Gourmet blend but not the other blends. The same goes for Home Depot and Academy Sports. They both just seem to stock the Gourmet blend pellets.

GMG Pellet Blends – 71 Cents to $1.18 Per Lb

There are a couple of different GMG (Green Mountain Grill) pellet blends:

  • Gold Blend: Oak, Hickory, Maple
  • Texas Blend: Oak, Hickory, Mesquite
  • Fruitwood Blend: Cherry, Beach, Pecan
GMG Pellet Blends

You can find these GMG pellet blends available for sale at Amazon, Walmart and BBQGuys. What is a little odd is these pellets come in 28 lb bags.

Prices at Amazon are generally $20 per bag. Whereas at Walmart, only the Fruitwood blend is $20, the Gold Blend ($33) and Texas Blend ($32) are quite a bit more for some reason.

BBQGuys sell all of the GMG pellet blends above for $20 per bag. Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets is typically 71 Cents to $1.18 per lb.

Louisiana Grills Pellet Blends – 75 Cents to $1 Per Lb

Currently, Louisiana Grills just has one custom pellet blend on sale:

  • Competition Blend: Maple, Hickory, Cherry
Louisiana Grills Pellet Blends

You can pick these Competiton Blend pellets up in 40 lb bags directly from Louisiana Grills ($30) or from Amazon ($32), Lowes ($33) or BBQGuys ($40).

Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets ranges from 75 Cents up to $1.

RECTEQ Pellet Blends – 88 Cents Per Lb

Currently, there is just one RECTEQ pellet blend:

  • Ultimate Blend: White Oak, Red Oak, Hickory
RECTEQ Pellet Blends

These Ultimate Blend pellets are available in 40 lb bags, and you can pick them up from Amazon ($35).

I’ve also found them available at Home Depot as a pack of three, but the price per bag worked out at a very high $54!?

Anyway, the typical price per lb for these pellets (ignoring Home Depot) is 88 Cents per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: 88 Cents
  • Bag Size: 40 lbs
  • Availability: Amazon.com

Broil King Pellet Blends – 90 Cents To $1

There are currently two pellet blends sold by Broil King, which are:

  • Grillers Select: Oak, Maple, Cherry
  • Smoke Masters Blend: Maple, Hickory, Cherry
Broil King Pellet Blends

You can get both of these pellet blends from Broil King at Amazon and Home Depot in 20 lb bags.

At Amazon, the Grillers Select blend is $18 per bag, and the Smoke Masters Blend is $20. At Home Depot, the Grillers Select blend is $18, and the Smoke Masters Blend is $19.

Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets ranges from 90 Cents to $1 per lb.

Fire & Flavor Pellet Blends – 90 Cents Per Lb

Currently, there is just one pellet blend from the Fire & Flavor brand:

  • Signature Blend: Cherry, Mesquite, Oak
Fire & Flavor Pellet Blends

I can currently only find these Fire & Flavor Signature Blend pellets at Home Depot ($18) in 20 lb bags. Therefore, the price per lb works out to be 90 Cents per lb.

  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: HomeDepot.com

CookinPellets Pellet Blends – 95 Cents to $1.08 Per Lb

CookinPellets currently have two pellet blends which are:

  • Perfect Mix: Hickory, Cherry, Hard Maple, Apple
  • Longhorn Blend: Mesquite, Hard Maple, Cherry
CookinPellets Pellet Blends

You can pick up bags of the Perfect Mix blend from Amazon in 40 lb bags for $38. However, for some reason, they don’t appear to stock the Longhorn Blend.

Alternatively, you can find both the Perfect Mix ($38) and Longhorn Blend ($43) at Home Depot. They also have offers on multiple bags to reduce the price per lb.

When purchasing single bags though, the price per lb for these pellets ranges from 95 Cents to $1.08.

Weber SmokeFire Pellet Blends – 95 Cents Per Lb

Currently, there is just one Weber SmokeFire pellet blend:

  • Grillmaster Blend: 34% Maple, 33% Hickory, 33% Cherry
Weber SmokeFire Pellet Blends

Weber is one of the few brands that gives very specific mix percentages for their pellets. In terms of availability, you can get these pellets from Home Depot, Lowes and BBQGuys.

You should consistently find these pellets in 20 lb bags priced at just under $19. Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets works out to 95 Cents per lb.

BBQGuys Pellet Blends – $1 Per Lb

Outside of their specific flavored pellets, BBQGuys just have one pellet blend currently:

  • Signature Competition Blend: Hickory, Oak, Cherry, Apple
BBQGuys Pellet Blends

You can only currently purchase BBQGuys pellets directly from their own website. The Signature Competition Blend is sold in 20 lb bags for $20, hence $1 per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: BBQGuys.com

Grilla Grills Pellet Blends – $1 Per Lb

Currently, Grilla Grills just offers one custom pellet blend:

Just like their pellet grills/smokers, you can only currently buy Grilla Grills pellets directly from their own website. These Competition Blend pellets sell for $20 in $20 bags, hence $1 per lb.

Oklahoma Joe’s Pellet Blends – $1 Per Lb

Currently, Oklahoma Joe’s just has one pellet blend on offer:

  • Competition Blend: Cherry, Hickory, Maple
Oklahoma Joe's Pellet Blends

I’ve only currently found these Oklahoma Joe’s Competition Blend pellets for sale at Amazon ($20) in 20 lb bags. Therefore, the price per lb is $1.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: Amazon.com

Kingsford Pellet Blends – $1 to $1.18 Per Lb

Kingsford has a growing range of interesting custom pellet blends:

  • Grillmasters Choice: Hickory, Cherry, Oak

  • Memphis BBQ Blend: Hickory, Garlic, Paprika, Rosemary
  • Cumin Chili Blend: Base of Mesquite
  • Garlic Onion Paprika: Base of Hickory
  • Basil Sage Thyme: Base of Oak
Kingsford Pellet Blends

So you can pick up many of these Kingsford pellet blends from outlets including Amazon, Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot.

In terms of the price per bag, you will find prices ranging from most outlets around the $20 per bag mark. However, not all pellet blends come in the same weight of bags.

For instance, you have blends such as Grillmaster’s Choice and Southwest Blend which come in 20 lb bags. However, many of the other blends come in smaller 17 lb bags.

Hence, that changes the price per lb. Therefore, the range in the price per lb for these pellets is typically between $1 and $1.18.

Traeger Pellet Blends – $1 to $1.30 Per Lb

There is a growing selection of Traeger pellet blends:

  • Signature Blend: Hickory, Maple, Cherry
  • Bold Bend: Hickory, Cherry, Rosemary
  • Turkey Blend: Maple, Hickory, Rosemary
  • Brisket Blend: Oak, Pecan, Black Pepper
  • Meat Church Blend: Oak, Hickory
Traeger Pellet Blends

If you want to pick up a bag of one of the Traeger pellet blends above, your best bet is directly through the Traeger website.

While you can find the Signature blend through other outlets such as Amazon, Walmart, Home Depot and BBQGuys, they don’t seem to stock many of the other blends for some reason.

In terms of the price per lb, you should be able to pick up a 20 lb bag of Signature Blend from pretty much any outlet at $20, hence a price per lb of $1.

However, the other Traeger pellet blends demand a higher price, typically $24 per bag, but you need to also note the bag size is reduced to 18 lbs.

Hence, with the other Traeger pellet blends, the price per lb works out at $1.30.

Knotty Wood Barbeque Pellets – $1.10 to $1.90 Per Lb

These pellets aren’t technically a blend. However, the wood species they are made of are so niche they don’t fit into my other articles, so I’ve placed them in this article:

  • 100% Pure Almond Wood Pellets
  • 100% Pure Plum Wood Pellets
Knotty Wood Barbeque Pellets

The best outlets currently to pick up these pellets are from Lowes or Home Depot, where you will typically pay around $22 for a 20 lb bag.

You can also pick them up from Amazon and Walmart. However, I’m seeing some very inflated prices of around $38 for a 20 lb bag.

Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets ranges from $1.10 to $1.90.

BBQr’s Delight Pellet Blends – $1.30 to $1.50 Per Lb

The current selection of BBQr’s Delight pellet blends includes the following:

  • Master Your Beef: Hickory, Black Pecan, Walnut
  • Contest Mix: 50/50 Pecan, Cherry Mix
BBQr's Delight Pellet Blends

I managed to find the Master Your Beed blend ($30) and the Contest Mix ($29) at Amazon in 20 lb bags.

I was also able to find the Master Your Beed blend ($26) and the Contest Mix ($26) at Walmart.

Therefore, the price per lb for these pellet blends ranges from $1.30 to $1.50.

Z Grills Pellet Blends – $1.50 Per Lb

There are currently two pellet blends offered under the Z Grills brand:

  • Competition Blend: Maple, Hickory, Cherry

Z Grills Pellet Blends

These Z Grills pellet blends are widely available in 20 lb bags. You can pick them up directly from Z Grills ($30), Amazon.com ($30), and Home Depot ($30).

Therefore, the price per lb for these Z Grills pellet blends appears consistent at $1.50 per lb.

Mr. Bar-B-Q Pellet Blends – $2 Per Lb

There is currently just one pellet blend on offer by the Mr. Bar-B-Q brand:

  • Select Blend: Hickory, Oak, Apple
Mr. Bar-B-Q Pellet Blends

I’ve only currently found this pellet blend at Amazon in 20 lb bags for $40. That means the price per lb is very high at $2 per lb.

  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: Amazon.com
