Best Value Liquor Pellet Blends Per Lb

Hi, I’m Chris. I started PelHeat.com back in 2007.

I have my main article on the best value pellets for smoking/grilling. This article is to specifically cover the best-value liquor blend pellets currently on the market. These are BBQ pellets made from reclaimed Oak liquor barrels. This is obviously only a small niche of BBQ pellets. This article doesn’t cover other pellet flavors. If you are looking for those, check out my AppleCherryHickory, MesquiteMapleOakPecan or Custom Blend articles. Enjoy 🙂

Hence, Lowes is easily the best place to buy them currently. The price per lb varies from different outlets between 70 Cents to $1.20.

Louisiana Grills Liquor Pellets – 75 Cents to $1 Per Lb

Currently, Louisiana Grills just have one liquor pellet blend:

Therefore, the price per lb for these Whiskey barrel pellets ranges from 75 Cents to $1 per lb.

I have found these pellets for sale in 20 lb bags on Amazon ($33), but they often seem out of stock. I’ve also found them at Home Depot ($33) and Tractor Supply ($15) for easily the best price.

Therefore, the price per lb for these Jim Beam Whiskey barrel pellets ranges from 75 Cents to $1.65.

Cuisinart Liquor Pellets – 85 Cents Per Lb

Cuisinart currently has one of the largest offerings of liquor pellets:

  • Applewood Whiskey: Aged Oak Whiskey barrels, Applewood
  • California Red Wine Hickory: Oak Wine barrels, Hickory
  • Cherry Rum: Aged Rum barrels, Cherry wood
  • Maple Bourbon: Aged Bourbon barrels, Maple wood
Cuisinart Liquor Pellets

If you want to pick up a bag of one of the Cuisinart liquor pellet blends above, you’ll have to get them from Walmart, as that’s the only outlet I can find that stocks them.

They come in 20 lb bags with a price of $17. Therefore, the price per lb works out at just 85 Cents per lb.

These Crown Royal Whiskey barrel pellets are sold in 20 lb bags. However, at all the outlets I can find them at, they are only sold in pairs of 20 lb bags, so 40 lbs in total.

I can find them at Amazon ($40), Home Depot ($40) and Lowes ($40). Hence, the price per lb, when purchased as a pair of bags at 40 lbs, works out consistently at $1 per lb.

There is currently just one liquor pellet blend on offer by Traeger:

Traeger Liquor Pellets

According to Traeger, these are a limited run, so I’m sure how much longer these Whiskey barrel pellets will be available for.

They are available in 18 lb bags directly from Traeger ($25), and I’ve also found them available at Home Depot ($25).

Therefore, these Whiskey Barrel pellets come in at $1.39 per lb.

Knotty Wood Barbecue Liquor Pellets – $1.65 Per Lb

There is just one liquor blend available from Knotty Wood Barbecue currently:

Cabernet Wine Pellets: California wine, Alamond, ‘hint of Oak’

The product description for these pellets is interesting, as they are not stated to have been made from reclaimed Oak wine barrels but from California wine itself with Almond wood!?

I need to drop Knotty Wood an email to discuss this. My background in pellet manufacturing has me curious about their process. I suspect they may be soaking the Almond in wine then drying it.

Anyway, I can only currently find these Cabernet Wine pellets for sale at Home Depot ($33) in 20 lb bags. Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets works out to $1.65 per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1.65
