Best Value Mesquite Pellets Per Lb

Hi, I’m Chris. I started PelHeat.com back in 2007.

I have my main article on the best value pellets for smoking/grilling. This article is to specifically cover the best-value Mesquite pellets currently on the market. However, some pellets are made from 100% Mesquite, and others are a Mesquite pellet blend with a high percentage of Oak pellets. Therefore, I’ve separated the two types of ‘Mesquite pellets’ to calculate the best price per lb. I’ve ordered the two lists below with the cheapest brand of pellets per lb first.

Best Value Mesquite Pellets

Disclaimer: Hey! By the way… any links on this page that lead to products on Amazon or other sites are affiliate links, and I earn a commission if you make a purchase.

Best Value Mesquite Blended Pellets – Ordered Cheapest Per Lb

So the first pellets I’ve included below are Mesquite blended pellets. Hence, there will be a percentage of Mesquite pellets within the bag, typically 30%, and the rest will be typically Oak pellets.

Any brand which does not specifically state their pellets are made from 100% Mesquite, I’ve included them in the list below as Mesquite blended pellets.

As pellet bag sizes change (some are 20 lbs, some are 40 lbs), I focus on the price per lb, not per bag. This is an important distinction to make when looking to buy the best-value pellets.

The order of the different brands of Mesquite blended pellets below is the cheapest per lb first. However, prices can obviously change, but I’ll do my best to update this article over time.

Bear Mountain Mesquite Pellets – 43 Cents to 93 Cents Per Lb

Bear Mountain has been producing BBQ pellets since the 1990’s. Hence they are one of the most established pellet brands, and they offer a wide range of flavors.

Their Mesquite pellets, like all of their other pellet flavors (except their Oak pellets), are blended. Hence, there is a percentage of Mesquite wood in the bag but other hardwood (Oak) as well.

Bear Mountain Mesquite Pellets

The availability of these pellets is pretty good. You can pick them up in 40 lb bags from Amazon ($37), Home Depot ($37), Walmart ($30) and Lowes ($17.50).

I’m not sure if that Lowes price is an error, but its a great deal.

Therefore, the price per lb for these Mesquite pellets world out between 43 Cents to 93 Cents.

Pit Boss Mesquite Pellets – 50 Cents to 73 Cents Per Lb

I’m sure you’re aware of Pit Boss and their huge range of pellets grills/smokers, such as the Pro Series, Sportsman, Navigator and their latest Onyx Edition.

Well, Pit Boss also have one of the largest pellet ranges as well. Their Mesquite pellets are blended with Oak. However, the percentages as part of the blend are unknown.

Pit Boss Mesquite Pellets

The availability of these Mesquite pellets is very good. You can get them directly from Pit Boss ($20) and Amazon ($29) in 40 lb bags. Lowes ($12) also sell them in 20 lb bags.

Therefore, the price per lb for these Mesquite blended pellets works out between 50 Cents to 73 Cents.

Louisiana Grills Mesquite Pellets – 73 Cents to $1 Per Lb

Louisiana Grills are a brand owned by Danson LLC, which also owns the Pit Boss brand. As well as selling the Lousiana Grills pellet grill/smoker range, they also sell their own branded pellets.

These Mesquite pellets are a blend of Mesquite and Oak. However, the mix percentage is unknown.

Louisiana Grills Mesquite Pellets

The availability of these pellets is pretty good. You can get them directly from Louisiana Grills ($29), Amazon ($32), Home Depot ($32) and BBQGuys ($40) in 40 lb bags.

The price per lb for these Mesquite pellets works out as 73 Cents to $1 per lb.

Camp Chef Mesquite Pellets – 85 Cents Per Lb

Camp Chef produce established models, such as SmokePro and Woodwind, and they are also producing some of the most innovative products, such as the Apex and Woodwind Pro.

In terms of their pellets, these Camp Chef Mesquite pellets are blended pellets. However, Camp Chef doesn’t state the mixture/percentages of their ‘proprietary’ pellets, which is a bit disappointing.

Camp Chef Mesquite Pellets

These Camp Chef Mesquite pellets are widely available in 20 lb bags from Camp Chef ($17), Amazon ($17), Home Depot ($17), Lowes ($17) & Walmart ($21).

Besides the inflated price at Walmart, the price per lb for these pellets works out consistently at 85 Cents per lb.

Fire & Flavor Mesquite Pellets – 90 Cents Per Lb

When I was browsing the Home Depot website, I came across these Fire & Flavor pellets. However, I’ve been unable to find out much about the brand or its pellets.

Fire & Flavor Mesquite Pellets

It would appear that these pellets are blended. Hence the bag contains Mesquite pellets along with some other hardwood pellets, likely Oak pellets.

As I say, I’ve only currently found these pellets at Home Depot ($18) in 20 lb bags. Therefore the price per lb works out at 90 Cents per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: 90 Cents
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: HomeDepot.com

Broil King Mesquite Pellets – 95 Cents to $1.45 Per Lb

Broil King is mainly known for their gas grills. However, they do actually have their own range of pellet grills/smokers. For instance, they offer one of the few pellet grills with a rotisserie.

Anyway, let’s get to the pellets. These pellets are blended, as stated on the packaging, these are a Mesquite and Oak blend, but the percentages are not stated.

Broil King Mesquite Pellets

When it comes to the availability of these pellets, you can get them in 20 lb bags from Amazon ($29) and Home Depot ($19).

Therefore the price per lb for these Mesquite blended pellets works out between 95 Cents and $1.45 per lb.

Weber SmokeFire Mesquite Pellets – 95 Cents Per Lb

Weber is obviously the biggest name in BBQ in general, and they are gradually working their way into the pellet BBQ market with their SmokeFire pellet grills/smokers.

Weber also sells their own pellets. Their Mesquite pellets are a blend of Mesquite pellets (40%) and Oak pellets (60%).

Weber SmokeFire Mesquite Pellets

The availability of these pellets is pretty good. However, they are oddly not stocked currently at Amazon and Walmart for some reason. But you can still get them from BBQGuys ($19) and Lowes ($19).

As these Weber Mesquite pellets come in 20 lb bags, the price per lb works out at 95 Cents.

BBQGuys Mesquite Pellets – $1 Per Lb

BBQGuys are now of the leading online retailers for BBQs but also pellet grills/smokers specifically. Therefore, it makes sense that BBQGuys decided to launch their own pellets.

These Mesquite pellets are blended. Hence a bag contains a mixture of Mesquite pellets and Oak pellets. BBQGuys specifically state its a 40% Mesquite and 60% Oak blend.

BBQGuys Mesquite Pellets

Currently, you can only pick up these 20 lb bag pellets directly from BBQGuys ($20). Therefore, the price per lb works out at $1 per lb.

Traeger Mesquite Pellets – $1 Per Lb

If you’re aware of pellet grills/smokers, you’re aware of Traeger, the origins of pellet BBQs. It shouldn’t be too surprising that Traeger pellets are some of the most widely available.

I’ve actually written about how Traeger pellets are made. Anyway, Traeger pellets are blended pellets. Hence, these Mesquite pellets are partly made from Mesquite, and the rest are Oak pellets.

Availability is very good. You can pick these pellets up in 20 lb bags directly from Traeger ($20), Amazon ($20), Walmart ($25), Home Depot ($20) and BBQGuys ($20).

Despite the inflated price at Walmart, you should be able to pick these pellets up for $20 a bag from pretty much any outlet that stocks them. Hence, the price per lb is $1.

Memphis Grills Mesquite Pellets – $1.05 Per Lb

Memphis Grills produce high-end stainless steel pellet grills for outdoor kitchens. They also offer their own range of BBQ pellets in various flavors.

The Mesquite pellets would appear to be blended pellets as the packaging simply states ‘100 Percent Pure Hardwood‘. Hence, it doesn’t specifically state 100% Mesquite.

Memphis Grills Mesquite Pellets

The only place online I can currently find these pellets for sale is over at BBQGuys ($21) in 20 lb bags. Therefore, the price per lb for these pellets works out to $1.05.

  • Bag Size: 18 lbs

Lumber Jack Mesquite Pellets – $1.18 to $1.65 Per Lb

Lumber Jack pellets have been around for many years now. However, it seems to be harder and harder to find where these pellets are available.

These Mesquite pellets are a blend of 60% Red Oak and 40% Mesquite.

Lumber Jack Mesquite Pellets

I’ve found these pellets available in 20 lb bags at Amazon ($33), but I’ve also found them available at Walmart ($47) in 40 lb bags for better value.

Therefore the price per lb of these pellets ranges from $1.18 to $1.65 per lb.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1.18 to $1.65

  • Availability: Amazon.comWalmart.com

BBQr’s Delight Mesquite Pellets – $1.25 Per Lb

The first BBQ pellets I ever purchased were a selection pack by BBQr’s Delight. While it appears a lot of their business is selling small pellet bags for smoking on gas grills, they also sell 20 lb bags.

These Mesquite pellets are a blend of Oak pellets and Mesquite pellets. However, the percentage of the different wood species is not stated on the packaging.

BBQr’s Delight Mesquite Pellets

You can pick these Mesquite pellets up from Amazon ($25), Walmart ($25) and Big Poppa Smokers ($25) in 20 lb bags.

The Mr. Bar-B-Q brand has been around since the early 1970s selling charcoal etc. However, they have now decided to branch out and offer their own branded pellets in a couple of flavors.

Their Mesquite pellets state ‘made from 100% natural hardwoods‘. However, it is not stated 100% Mesquite, so it would appear these are blended pellets.

Mr. Bar-B-Q Mesquite Pellets

I’ve only currently found these pellets for sale at Amazon ($35) in 20 lb bags. Hence, the price per lb is very high at $1.75, especially if these are blended pellets.

  • Typical Price Per lb: $1.75
  • Bag Size: 20 lbs
  • Availability: Amazon.com

Best Value 100% Mesquite Pellets – Ordered Cheapest Per Lb

Now, as the brands below are offering 100% Mesquite pellets that are not blended with Oak pellets, you should typically expect a higher price per lb.

However, if you are looking for the most pronounced Applewood flavour possible when you are smoking a brisket or smoking burgers etc, then you may want to consider the pellets below.

B&B 100% Mesquite Pellets – 50 Cents Per Lb

B&B are a major producer of charcoal. They have been selling the stuff since the 1960s. Well, B&B has now decided to start selling its own branded pellets.

Grilla Grills 100% Mesquite Pellets – $1 Per Lb

If you have not heard of Grilla Grills before, they produce some very interesting pellet grills/smokers. Their smallest model, the Chimp, is one of the best portable pellets grills currently on the market.

Grilla Grills also sell their own branded pellets. Notably, their pellets feature a single wood species. Therefore, their Mesquite pellets are 100% Mesquite.

Grilla Grills 100% Mesquite Pellets

You can only currently buy these Mesquite pellets directly from Grilla Grills ($20), just like their pellet grills/smokers. The price per lb works out at $1 per lb.
