The key advantage of a combined pellet smoker and gas grill is you have the convenience of a pellet smoker for flavor and the benefit of propane heat output for fast grilling/searing.

As the Pit Boss Mile Hybrid is a pellet/gas combo it means its both a pellet smoker and a gas grill.
The Mile Hybrid has two propane burners on either side of the pellet burn pot

Therefore, on a weeknight, when you want to quickly grill up some burgers/steaks, use the gas burners. Then on the weekend, with more time, fire up the pellet burner for some smokey goodness.

The controller fitted to the Pit Boss Mile Hybrid is based on their older time-based temperature control technology, and it doesn’t offer precise temperature adjustment from the pellet burner.

The Pit Boss controller fitted to the Mile Hybrid does not take advantage of their latest technology.
Its not a ‘bad’ controller. It could even be argued as ‘tried and tested’ as opposed to being based on older technology

My point is, the controller doesn’t feature the latest PID temperature control technology, and there is no WiFi/Bluetooth for the Mile Hybrid to connect to the Pit Boss SmokeIT App.

The Pit Boss Mile Hybrid has a typical price point of under five hundred dollars (check our database). As such, it is currently the cheapest pellet/gas combo grill on the market.

You cannot currently find a cheaper pellet /gas combo grill.
You cannot currently get a cheaper pellet/gas combo barbeque

Now, does the low price point come with some compromises? Of course it does; one of them, as I’ve mentioned above, is the controller. The second is…

I’ve read owner’s reviews on pretty much every Pit Boss pellet grill/smoker ever released. While they do indeed offer good value, they are built to a budget, and it shows.

There are owner reviews of Pit Boss products complaining about build-quality/paint finish.
With the cheapest pellet grills/smokers on the market, build quality and materials is not going to be the best out there

However, you will also find many owner reviews praising the functionality/features of their Pit Boss pellet grills/smokers. So, the build quality and price point need to be kept in context.

The Pit Boss Mile Hybrid offers a total cooking area of 661 sq.in and a main grate of 438 sq.in. I think for a small family/group of friends this size of cooking area is more than sufficent.

The cooking area on the Pit Boss Mile Hybrid is more than sufficient for many small families.
The Mile Hybrid has a cooking area ideal for a small family get together

I often think that many people look for a pellet grill/smoker with a cooking area much larger than they really need. One consequence of that decision is increased pellet consumption.

Talking of pellet consumption, a weakness of the Pit Boss Mile Hybrid is the size of its pellet hopper, which is only 15 lbs. For one, it cannot take a 20 lb bag of BBQ pellets in one go.

The pellet hopper on the Pit Boss Mile Hybrid is only 15 lbs.
At only 15 lbs, the pellet hopper capacity may lead to a few problems

Let’s say you want to smoke a brisket slowly overnight. Typical pellet consumption will be between 1 and 2 lbs per hour. Hence, even a full hopper might not last until the morning.

My Final Thoughts On The Pit Boss Mile Hybrid

I know that many of the users of our database use the Pellet/Gas Combo drop-down filter. The appeal of having both pellet smoke and gas heat from a single BBQ is very strong to a lot of people.

Do I think the Mile Hybrid is the best pellet/gas combo model on the market? No, but its also by far the cheapest/most affordable such model, which I think would meet the needs of many people.
